Stellantis Opens New Parts Distribution Centre in Ellesmere Port, UK

Stellantis, the global automobile manufacturer, has expanded its operations in the UK with the opening of a 60,000 square metre service parts distribution centre (PDC) at Ellesmere Port. The new facility, which employs 234 staff members operating over two shifts, five days per week, brings distribution of parts for ten Stellantis brands across the UK and Ireland under one roof for the first time.

The PDC at Ellesmere Port is the first UK warehouse to achieve certification under the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM). It captures rainwater in a 7,000-liter storage tank and treats waste water before filtering it into the Manchester Ship Canal. This eco-friendly approach is part of Stellantis' commitment to sustainable operations.

The PDC serves as a central hub, sourcing, packing, and shipping parts to 19 regional hubs, which then deliver parts to nearly 1,000 dealer and service centres. Approximately 4 million spare parts will be delivered per year from the PDC. The facility holds 140,000 different part lines for vehicles up to ten years' old on 14-metre-high racking.

Sue Mead, who previously served as Plant Director in Ellesmere Port, is the head of the PDC. Diane Miller, who oversaw the transition of Ellesmere Port to electric vehicle production before taking on her current role, now manages the PDC. Notably, the PDC also provides parts for other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Distrigo's own multi-brand Eurorepar range.

Stellantis is planning to open a $388m Mopar service parts megahub in Van Buren Township, Michigan in 2027. The new PDC, located adjacent to Stellantis' electric van manufacturing plant, will use the Autostore automated storage and retrieval system. It will also supply Sustainera remanufactured parts.

The demand for the parts is monitored through Stellantis' warehouse management system (WMS). The company has implemented an On Time in Full (Otif) system at the PDC, resulting in a 60% reduction in the number of return truck journeys since its opening, equivalent to around 60 trips per week.

Jamie Craig, who previously managed the PDC, has retired from the company after 43 years of service. The PDC at Ellesmere Port benefits from better transport links for distribution to the 19 regional hubs across the UK and Ireland. The brands represented at the PDC include Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall, DS Automobiles, Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Abarth, and Leapmotor.
