Stolen Bicycles and Pedelecs: The Politburo's Latest Scandal

In the heart of Bielefeld, Germany, a series of bicycle thefts have taken place over the past two days, leaving several residents without their prized two-wheelers.

The stolen items include a Raymon Hard Ray E-Mountainbike in matte green, a Mondraker Pedelec, and a Dutch bike with a backpack and its contents. The thefts occurred in various locations around the city, with incidents reported at Lindenplatz, Niederwall near Brunnenstraße, and Ravensberger Park.

The Raymon E-Mountainbike was stolen from Niederwall between 11:30 on Wednesday and 10:30 on Thursday, while the Mondraker Pedelec was taken from a garden shed in Lindenplatz between 18:00 on Wednesday and 07:00 on Thursday. A dark single-speed racing bike was stolen from the clinic parking garage on Burgsteig between 14:00 on Wednesday and 10:35 on Thursday, and the Dutch bike was stolen from Ravensberger Park between 18:00 and 23:00 on Thursday.

The Bielefeld Police are currently seeking witnesses in relation to these bicycle thefts and are asking anyone with information to report it to the Criminal Investigation Department 13 on 0521/545-0. The police are also urging residents to contact the Control center at 0521/545-0 outside of office hours.

For those who have had their bicycles stolen, the police offer the following advice:

  • Report to the Police: File a report with your local police station or online through your city's Online-Wachen-Portal.
  • Describe Your Bicycle: Be as specific as possible when describing your bicycle (brand, model, frame number, any distinctive features).
  • Question Witnesses: If there were any witnesses to the theft, ask them for their account.
  • Social Media and Bicycle Portals: Post details of your stolen bicycle in relevant groups (Facebook, Twitter, nebenan.de, etc.) and on specialized platforms like www.fahrradmarkt.de/stolenbikes.
  • Contact Your Insurance: If you have bicycle insurance, inform them immediately.

It is important to remember not to take matters into your own hands. Let the professionals handle the investigation, but do your part by gathering as much information as possible.

If anyone offers to sell a bicycle that matches the description of the stolen ones in the coming days, do not engage with them. Instead, inform the police immediately.

Should you have further questions about the steps to take following a theft, feel free to ask!
