In Overath, Germany, on September 1, 2023, an 81-year-old man from Nümbrecht fell victim to a con artist in the parking lot of a grocery store. The incident occurred around 10:30 AM at a supermarket on Propsteistraße.
According to the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis police, the perpetrator was an unknown man who approached the elderly gentleman and asked for change. Dressed in a blue-white T-shirt and standing approximately 1.85 to 1.90 meters tall, the con artist had a fair complexion and an Eastern European accent. The man was also wearing glasses during the incident.
The elderly man took money from his wallet to give to the perpetrator. However, after the con artist took the money, he left the scene without saying a word and without giving the change. It was only after the incident that the elderly man noticed 120 euros in cash and a lottery ticket were missing from his wallet.
The Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis police are actively investigating the incident. They are appealing for more witnesses to come forward and provide information about the fleeing con artist.
