Stranded Mountain Climber Endures a Week with a Broken Leg in Russian Peaks

In a harrowing turn of events, Russian climber Natalia finds herself stranded on Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan, at an altitude of approximately 7,000 meters, after an incident on August 12 during her descent.

Natalia's current predicament marks a tragic return to the mountain ranges, as it was four years ago that her husband suffered a paralysing incident on Peak Khan-Tengri, the same mountain where she now finds herself stranded. Despite her husband's memorial plaque being installed on Peak Khan-Tengri a year after the incident, Natalia has been unable to escape the mountain's grasp.

Reports suggest that Natalia was injured on August 12 while descending, prompting her partner to provide first aid and venture to the storm camp for help on August 13. However, rescue efforts for Natalia on Victory Peak today have been abandoned, as it is considered impossible to reach her location due to the treacherous conditions.

The situation took a turn for the worse when poor weather conditions prevented a scheduled evacuation attempt on August 14. Two foreign climbers attempted to pull Natalia out, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The tourist was then left on the mountain, wrapped in a sleeping bag, as she awaits help.

Natalia's predicament is not her first encounter with danger during her alpine climbs, as multiple incidents have been reported in the past. Despite this, her resolve to return to the mountains, particularly Peak Khan-Tengri, remains unwavering.

A new evacuation attempt is planned for today, if weather conditions permit. The information about Natalia's situation was reported by Mash, and a rescue group attempted to reach her by helicopter on a previous day, but the aircraft encountered turbulence and made a hard landing.

As Natalia continues to battle the elements on Victory Peak, our thoughts are with her and we hope for her safe rescue.
