The County Police Department Siegen-Wittgenstein has reported a successful outcome from the third implementation of its strategic surveillance in the city centre of Siegen this year. The initiative, led by County Commissioner Andreas Müller, aims to prevent crime and strengthen the sense of security among the people.

In a recent statement, the head of the county police department, LPD Klaus Bunse, expressed his satisfaction with the interim results. The strategic surveillance, which began on May 5th and ended with the control of 430 people in the city centre, has resulted in 315 citizens being searched, and 12 having objects or other items that were secured.

Bunse cited the numbers of over 310 searches and only twelve seizures as evidence of the effectiveness of the strategic surveillance. He also mentioned that there have been no serious crimes in the city centre area in the last two weeks.

The strategic surveillance allows the police to control people without a specific reason for four weeks and search bags or backpacks. Joint focus deployments with the city of Siegen's municipal authority and the federal police continue within the framework of the strategic surveillance.

Two residence and access bans were issued and monitored by the officers. In five cases, criminal charges were filed for violations of the narcotics law. Notably, a 17-year-old violated the ban against him and received a ban from the area, now facing a fine.

The positive feedback received from the population and shop owners in the area of Sandstraße and Kunstweg confirms the objective findings of the SOS. The continuous high, cross-directorial deployment of forces is worthwhile, according to Bunse.

It is important to note that the authority responsible for coordinating and implementing the effective security measures concept in Siegen's city centre under the leadership of the special organizational team "Sicherer Stadt Siegen" is not explicitly mentioned in the available search results.

The strategic surveillance will continue to be a crucial part of maintaining security in the city centre of Siegen, with its effectiveness demonstrated through the reduced crime rate and the positive feedback from the community.
