Strategies for Addressing the Challenges Posed by the Baby Boomer Generation
In an attempt to bridge the gap between Generation Z and Baby Boomers, a unique event was organised at an airport. The "Intergenerational Reconciliation Workshop" was designed to be efficient, sustainable, and with a touch of irony.
The main attraction of the workshop was large, comfortably padded suitcases, equipped with Wi-Fi for a modern travel experience, and fitted with hearing aid ports and Sudoku displays. These suitcases, sent on a conveyor belt, held pension certificates and were the destination for Baby Boomers who willingly participated.
Generation Z participants expressed dissatisfaction with traditional views and outdated technology, including Comic Sans and Facebook comments. In a humorous twist, one participant shared a selfie using the hashtag #BoomerBoarding, capturing the spirit of the event.
The Generation Z organisers waited patiently for the baggage conveyor belt to open, monitoring the arrival of the suitcases. The workshop was considered "well-organised", a value appreciated by both generations.
The concept for the workshop was developed by Professor Simone DeVore, an education scientist who researched intergenerational encounters in the USA, Latin America, and the German-speaking region, especially at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Her involvement and research emphasise promoting structured project concepts for intergenerational encounters.
Despite the ironic undertones, the event was observed to be efficient, sustainable, and successful in fostering intergenerational understanding. The Baby Boomers, having willingly participated, awaited their suitcases with anticipation, eager to engage in the planned activities. The workshop marked a step forward in bridging the generational divide and promoting intergenerational reconciliation.
