Strategies for Enhancing Your Experience on the Platform: Designate Us as a "Favored Resource" in Google Settings

In a bid to cater to the growing demand for quality science news, Google has introduced a new feature called "Preferred Sources." This innovative tool allows users to customise their Google Top Stories feed based on their interests, providing them with a more personalised and engaging experience.

With the Preferred Sources feature, users can tailor their news feed to focus on science breakthroughs, discoveries, and fascinating stories that might otherwise be missed. By subscribing to the membership platform of their preferred outlet, users gain access to more high-quality content, ensuring they stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the world of science.

The Preferred Sources feature offers users more control over what they see. It allows them to grow the audience of outlets they enjoy and trust, while also helping niche outlets reach readers who value quality science reporting. To use this feature, users can search for any topic, click on the icon to the right of "Top Stories," type "our platform" or "our website" in the search bar, and check the box to the right of the platform.

Supporting websites that you enjoy, trust, and rely on for accurate, engaging, and thoughtfully curated science reporting is important. Not only does it help these outlets continue delivering stories that matter, but it also ensures users get the news they want, without being buried under irrelevant or repetitive headlines.

The Preferred Sources feature is currently available in the US and India, and is expected to roll out to other countries soon. However, it is not yet available in the European Union, including Germany, where it is expected to launch in late 2025 or early 2026.

The media landscape is facing challenges like AI-generated content, algorithm-driven echo chambers, decreasing traffic from social media platforms, and declining trust in news. The Preferred Sources feature is a step towards addressing these issues, by allowing users to prioritise the sources they trust, ensuring they get accurate and interesting news.

Embrace the Preferred Sources feature today and take control of your news feed. Stay informed, stay engaged, and support the outlets that matter to you.
