Strategies for Preschool Learning: Detailed Plans Unveiled, Important Questions Addressed
In the heart of Bergisch Gladbach, construction for a new school is underway on the grounds of the Grundschule at Odenthaler Straße in Hebborn. The project, which aims to provide a safe elementary school place for all young families in the catchment area by summer 2023, has been met with anticipation from the local community.
The new building, designed with three stories and three classrooms each, will also include an attached OGS room. The color concept for the facade is still in negotiation, but it is planned to be based on existing regional colors, with different shades of beige and red tones.
The site clearance measures are currently underway, and the handover to the construction company is scheduled for February 13. Fewer trees need to be felled than initially feared due to exploratory excavations on the site. Necessary tree felling has been coordinated with StadtGruen, with three trees falling under the regulations of the municipal tree protection ordinance.
Replanting is planned for the overall planning, so that the site will retain its green character. The public playground and the school's designated play area will be replaced, with the public place to be created on the church grounds.
The new building body protrudes several meters towards the street compared to the existing building line. The design of the building has been presented in an updated floor plan and side view from different directions.
Project leader Stephan Hinzen explained the facade design will be realized in the form of a suspended, rear-ventilated HPL construction. Heat pump heating systems will use particularly quiet outdoor elements, which will be additionally enclosed.
In an effort to manage traffic during the construction phase, parking restrictions are yet to be clarified with the local authority, and residents will be informed in due course. Various concepts are being considered, including parent pick-up zones, "running school bus," and an application to calm Schwerfelstraße.
The residents' concerns in Hebborn included the fencing of the school grounds, the restoration of the public ball court, and the lack of open space concepts. Business Manager Sebastian Rolko announced no delay in the realization of the school construction for the coming school year.
An information evening was held in Hebborn on January 30 to discuss the upcoming construction of the school. Rolko emphasized the need for swift implementation, expressing his desire to provide a safe elementary school place for all young families in the catchment area by summer 2023.
The Mobility and Traffic Committee will discuss pick-up and drop-off traffic solutions for the school on February 14. From April 17, Schwerfelstraße between Asternstraße and Stichstraße west of the school grounds will be closed to ensure delivery of concrete prefabricated parts by heavy trucks.
As the construction progresses, the community in Hebborn looks forward to the completion of the new school, eager to see the positive impact it will have on the lives of the young families in the area.
