Strengthening bilateral relationships between the nations, as envisioned by the Nepalese heads of government

In a significant development on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam and Nepal's Prime Minister, Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, held a productive meeting on August 31. The host for this encounter was Vietnam.

Both leaders expressed a strong desire to strengthen the long-standing friendship and cooperation between their countries. Vietnam's Prime Minister affirmed his nation's readiness to assist Nepal in training officials and civil servants, while thanking Nepal for its goodwill and support.

Nepal's Prime Minister admired Vietnam's progress since 1975, specifically mentioning the liberation of the South and national reunification. He also expressed interest in learning from Vietnam's successful experience in national construction and development.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared values in history, culture, and development orientations towards socialism between the two countries. Both leaders pledged to deepen cooperation in culture, tourism, people-to-people exchanges, environmental protection, and climate change response.

To further strengthen bilateral ties, the leaders agreed to increase delegation exchanges, particularly at the high level, and to sign further agreements in trade and investment. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited his Nepalese counterpart, Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, to visit Vietnam in the near future, and the Vietnamese leader suggested Nepal create favorable conditions for Viettel and other major Vietnamese enterprises to explore investment opportunities in Nepal.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized the importance of advancing bilateral cooperation in the future and agreed to arrange a visit to Nepal at a suitable time. In response, Nepal's Prime Minister invited Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to visit Nepal.

The leaders continued to express support for each other at regional and international forums, reiterating their commitment to fostering a closer relationship between Vietnam and Nepal.
