Striving collectively towards a climate neutral future

In the heart of Germany, a monumental challenge is underway—the energy transition. This complex labyrinth, reminiscent of the Greek myth, has inspired the Kopernikus project Ariadne, a research initiative aiming to lay a "red thread" through the transition, much like the legendary Ariadne guiding Theseus from the labyrinth.

Celine Koch, the communications manager at Ariadne, describes the project's vision as a beacon of hope in the face of uncertainty. The goal? Climate neutrality by 2045.

The Ariadne project, focused on research into climate policy measures, brings together a diverse group of experts from various fields. Institutions such as the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, and the Nexus Institute are all part of the solution process. These institutions contribute with policy analysis, energy research, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring a holistic approach to the energy transition.

The project's recent endeavour includes the release of a short video, which underscores the need for the involvement and support of many people in achieving this ambitious goal. The video highlights the participation of politicians, researchers, and entrepreneurs, emphasising the energy transition's reliance on the support of all stakeholders in business and society.

Evelina Graffmann, a student assistant on the project, is one of the many individuals working tirelessly towards this common goal. The project aims to give citizens a voice in the energy transition, involving them in the solution process through various methods.

The energy transition requires solutions for decarbonizing various sectors, including industry, buildings, transportation, and energy. Ariadne's work is focused on finding these solutions, with a particular emphasis on engaging as many people as possible in the process.

As the energy transition in Germany progresses, the need for participation from multiple areas of society becomes increasingly evident. The Ariadne project serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and the collective effort required to navigate this complex challenge. With the support of all stakeholders, a climate-neutral future for Germany may well be within reach.
