On Wednesday, August 20th, at around 00:30, a traffic accident occurred on federal road 51 near Blankenheim-Blankenheimerdorf. The incident involved a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old man from the Netherlands, who, unfortunately, failed to notice a detour caused by roadworks at the junction with federal road 258.

As a result of this oversight, the driver veered off course, colliding with the guardrail of the opposite lane. The impact was severe enough to tear the guardrail from its anchorage. After the collision, the vehicle slid underneath the torn guardrail and came to a stop in a ditch.

Both the driver and his 21-year-old passenger were injured in the accident. They were promptly attended to by emergency services and taken to the hospital by ambulance.

The vehicle involved in the accident was significantly damaged. The accident took place while the driver was traveling from Blankenheim towards Dahlem on the B 51.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and any potential contributing factors. Road users are advised to exercise caution and adhere to all road signs, especially during construction periods, to avoid similar incidents.
