Struggles for Lions as Week 1 passes without Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn; time for concern?

The Detroit Lions began their 2022 season with a 27-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers, a game that highlighted the team's defensive struggles and offensive misfires.

Taylor Decker, the Lions' veteran left tackle, acknowledged that the team did not execute their game plan at the level they were supposed to in Week 1. Decker, however, emphasized that the players are not in panic mode, despite the loss.

The Lions' defense, in particular, struggled to put pressure on opposing quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The defense allowed the Packers to pin their ears back and focus on pass-rushing, especially against rookie Aidan Hutchinson. The Lions did not record a sack and only hit Rodgers twice.

The Lions' offense also struggled, managing only 246 yards of offense. The offensive line averaged less than their standard, with young players experiencing communication challenges. The team managed only 2.0 yards per carry and had a 1-for-4 mark in the red zone.

Head coach Dan Campbell gave credit to the Packers for their performance in Week 1 but also acknowledged that critical errors at the worst possible times contributed to the poor performance. Campbell emphasized the need for hard study and improvement ahead of the next game.

The Lions' coaching staff, including Campbell, shared responsibility for the poor performance in Week 1. In the offseason, the team lost their offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, and now face the challenge of replacing him with John Morton. The loss of both offensive and defensive coordinators in one season is rare, having happened only five times in the past three decades.

Aaron Glenn, the Lions' former defensive coordinator, left the team for the New York Jets, vacating the defensive coordinator position. Kelvin Sheppard has taken over as the defensive coordinator for the Lions.

The Lions are expected to face growing pains and may lose games they shouldn't lose this season. However, the team remains optimistic and is focused on improvement. Campbell emphasized that the team will learn from their mistakes in Week 1 and work hard to improve their performance in future games.

As the Lions prepare for their next game, fans will be watching closely to see if the team can turn things around and find their footing in the 2022 season.
