Students from Rehna's first grade class move the school desk prior to the commencement
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the second-graders at the Rehna Kaethe Kollwitz School put on a special performance to make the entry into school life easier for the 45 newcomers. The play, which took place at the school, had a powerful message: even a princess must learn to read and calculate.
The performance was a part of the second-graders' efforts to ease the transition for new students. According to School Principal Thomas Pommerenke, the performance was a great success and he praised the efforts of the second-graders.
The play depicted a princess learning to read and solve math problems, demonstrating that even royalty is not exempt from the basics of education. The performance brought tears to some of the new schoolchildren and parents, as they watched the story unfold.
As the new school year begins on Monday for around 165,000 children and young people in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, increased controls will be conducted throughout the state to ensure the safety of children in traffic. At the Rehna Kaethe Kollwitz School, controls will also take place, not least due to the ongoing construction work on the new kindergarten.
Interior Minister Christian Pegel (SPD) called on drivers to take special care due to the presence of many first-graders who will be on their own for the first time. He urged drivers to be patient and cautious, especially in school zones.
School Principal Mrs. Mariana Lange emphasized that it is normal for children and parents to show emotions, feel fear, or experience great joy. She encouraged everyone to support each other during this transition period.
Last year, 415 children aged six to 14 were involved in traffic accidents in the state. The authorities are taking steps to prevent such incidents and increase the safety of children on the roads.
The new first-graders went with their class teachers and kindergarten teachers to their first lesson in their own classroom on Monday. The principal wishes them all a successful and enjoyable school year.
