"Stunning victory": Oberdorf's resurgence in Bayern's Supercup triumph

In a thrilling Supercup match, Bayern Munich's women's football team emerged victorious against VfL Wolfsburg, securing a 4:2 win in Karlsruhe. The game, attended by 16,933 spectators, marked the debut of Lena Oberdorf for Munich.

The new coach, José Barcala, made some strategic changes at halftime, bringing on Klara Buhl, Pernille Harder, and Oberdorf. The fresh legs paid off, as Bayern Munich took the lead early in the second half.

Captain Magdalena Eriksson opened the scoring from 17 meters in the top left corner. Lena Oberdorf, returning from a 410-day absence due to a cruciate ligament injury, made a significant impact, winning a penalty and committing a foul on Wolfsburg striker Lineth Beerensteyn that led to a penalty for the Wolves.

Schüller followed suit with a stunning volley from the edge of the box, and Damnjanovic shrugged off her marker to slam the ball into the net for the third goal. However, Wolfsburg equalized 2:2 during the second half due to a blunder from Bayern Munich in clearing a corner.

Stanway, Bayern Munich's European champion, had a scoring opportunity in the 10th minute but missed. Despite a few uncertain appearances from Stina Johannes in the Wolfsburg goal, Stanway made it 4:2 for Bayern Munich with a penalty kick.

Justine Kielland was shown a yellow-red card during the match, adding to the excitement of the game. Only two new faces, Johannes and Janou Levels, started for Wolfsburg, while Giulia Gwinn missed the game due to an internal band injury sustained at the Euros.

The victory marks a successful start for coach Barcala, who took over ahead of the 2025/2026 season after Alexander Straus left for the USA. Bayern Munich's women's football team will look to continue this form as they prepare for their next challenge.
