In a thrilling One-Day Cup match, Yuzvendra Chahal, the Indian leg-spinner, made his debut for Northamptonshire against Kent and left an indelible mark.

Chahal, who recently represented the Rajasthan Royals in the 2023 season, began his Northamptonshire career with a bang. In his first outing against Kent, he took a stunning 5-14, including five maidens, showcasing his skill and precision.

The turning point of the match came in the 29th over of Durham's innings when Chahal dismissed George Drissell, reducing Durham to 150-7. This was followed by the dismissal of Paul Coughlin and Michael Killeen, both removed by Chahal in quick succession, thanks to his deliveries that left the batsmen struggling.

Chahal's impressive performance continued as he dismissed Killeen for a duck and secured a top-edge off his bat, which was caught by Luke Procter. This double strike left Durham reeling and struggling to recover.

Despite Chahal's impressive debut, his returns in the current season had been modest, with 1-69 vs Yorkshire and 2-54 vs Warwickshire. However, his career-best first-class figures of 9-99 against Derbyshire in the County Championship indicate his potential.

In the Northamptonshire innings, James Sales scored 117 runs, while Tim Robinson contributed 63. Justin Broad also chipped in with 59 runs. Nirvan Ramesh secured the victory for Northamptonshire by dismissing Archie Bailey for 1, ensuring a 150-run victory for the team.
