Summer holiday reading club offers immersive reading experiences, craft activities with a selection of books
The City Library is gearing up for an exciting summer with the launch of its Summer Holiday Reading Club. Organised by Tanja Schepokat, the club offers a variety of activities for young readers between the ages of six and 15.
Starting on August 5 and running until September 9, the creative club meetings will take place every Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:30. The usual venue is the City Library on Weilerstraße, but one meeting will also be held at the Salzstadel.
Participants are in for a treat as the club culminates with a celebration at the end of the summer holiday. A special main prize awaits the winner: a day at a theme park for the whole family.
Registration for the club is required and can be done on the City Library's media portal at www.medienportal.our website. Participants automatically enter the statewide special draw for the summer holiday reading club, which is part of the statewide program "Lesen was geht," coordinated by the State Office for Public Library Affairs and supported by the Bavarian Library Association.
Tanja Schepokat, the driving force behind the club, provided initial reading tips and book recommendations. She emphasized the importance of reading for children during their summer holidays, comparing avid readers to "reading owls" who explore the world of books.
The creative club meetings offer a varied program, including craft activities, comic drawing, book rallies, and self-designed film posters. Putz, the organiser of the event, recalled his own reading experiences during summer holidays as an important balance.
The reading club at the City Library is free for all participants. Further information about the summer holiday reading club can be found at www.sommerferien-leseclub.de.
For those who wish to register in person, registration can be done at the City Library in Salzstadel or on Weilerstraße. Participants must read or listen to at least three books or comics to receive a certificate.
A closing event for the summer holiday reading club will take place on Thursday, September 25, at the City Library on Weilerstraße. So, grab your books, join the club, and let's dive into a world of imagination this summer!
