Support for Pheu Thai Party's Prime Minister nominee, Chaikasem, intensifies in Charthaipattana
Chartthaipattana Party Endorses Chaikasem Nitisiri as Prime Ministerial Candidate
The Chartthaipattana Party (CTP) has announced its support for Chaikasem Nitisiri, a former attorney-general, as the prime ministerial candidate in the upcoming House debate. The decision was made during a meeting held at the party's parliamentary office on Friday morning.
The session, chaired by party leader Varawut Silpa-archa, was attended by MPs from various locations, including Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pathom, and Roi Et. The meeting was held to prepare for the House debate on endorsing a prime ministerial candidate under Section 159 of the Constitution.
The CTP's spokesperson, Chatchawan Chuaychoo, confirmed the party's stance, stating that they have resolved to back Chaikasem Nitisiri, who was nominated by the ruling coalition's leading party, Pheu Thai. Mr. Chaikasem reiterated his promise to dissolve the House immediately if elected, a pledge framed as Pheu Thai's latest effort to retain power after the Privy Council rejected its earlier bid to dissolve parliament.
Senior members of the CTP, including Prapat Pothasuthon, Sorachad Sujit, Natthawut Prasertsuwan, Noppadon Martsri, Samerkan Thiengtham, Anucha Sasomsap, Panuwat Sasomsap, Supachok Srisukchon, and Anurak Jurimas, were present at the meeting. However, the CTP did not discuss any conditions or terms associated with their support for Chaikasem Nitisiri, nor did they discuss any alternative candidates or parties they might consider supporting in the future.
The CTP has affirmed that they will accept the result of the vote, whatever the outcome. The exact location for the news conference where Chaikasem Nitisiri made his promise to dissolve the House was not mentioned. The CTP's endorsement adds a significant boost to Chaikasem Nitisiri's chances in the upcoming House debate.
