Support Gathering for Immigrants in Alexandria
On September 1, a nationwide day of protest is set to take place in Alexandria, with the local demonstration aiming to show solidarity with immigrants and condemn recent ICE raids. The event, scheduled from 10AM to 11AM, will see the participation of Congressman Don Beyer and community members affected by ICE.
The protest will emphasize the importance of unity and solidarity with immigrant neighbours in Alexandria. Organisers have requested a variety of material donations for Chirilagua-Arlandria residents who are struggling due to loss of income caused by ICE.
The list of requested items includes uncooked red beans, rice, white corn flour (Maseca), cooking oil, instant coffee, sugar, cereal, oatmeal, instant ramen noodle soup, laundry detergent, soap, dish soap, toothpaste, paper towels, and toilet paper.
Basic hygiene items and food are in high demand, as many residents have been affected by the recent ICE activities. Donations can be dropped off starting at 9:30AM.
After the protest, there will be "Action Stations" from 11AM to 12PM for signing up for concrete actions and follow-up. The goal of the protest is to bring Alexandrians together in solidarity with their immigrant neighbours, and to denounce recent ICE abductions in the community, including workers.
The statement asserts that the future of Alexandria depends on all residents working together to protect immigrants and get ICE out of the city. The protest aims to highlight the need for unity and solidarity in the face of challenging times.
