Surfing excitement translates onto the movie screen with the film titled 'Deep End'
In the heart of South Africa, a new film titled "Deep End" is making waves, capturing the vibrant energy and intense color of Durban, a city of strong contrasts influenced by cultural diversity. Directed by Eubulus Timothy, this intriguing production promises to delve into themes that resonate universally.
The film features an eclectic cast, including both new and experienced actors such as Greg Kriek, Carishma Basday, Suraya-Rose Santos, Mahendra Raghunath, Robin Singh, Priya Lutchman, and others. The lead role of the young Indian woman who struggles with a conformist society and embarks on a journey of self-assertion through surfing and conflict to defy her father's wishes, is played by Senita Huskic.
"Deep End" showcases the contrast of the blue-green ocean and the deep blue sky with the white foam of crushing waves, capturing Durban beach life. The film's color and texture follow a palette of strong bright colors with deep shadows and contrasts, expertly crafted by Director of Photography Ebrahim Hajee.
Beach culture is essential to Durban, and Timothy wanted to capture the conflict and longing that comes from people wanting to aspire to different things. The film is set on the shorelines of Durban's Golden Mile, and 80% of the crew and cast are from Kwa-Zulu Natal.
The soundtrack of "Deep End" features music from Durban-born group Easy Freaks, adding an authentic local flavour to the production. Producer Jacintha de Nobrega is proud that the film is truly local and aims to grow the television and film industry by engaging local crew and artists.
