Suspect granted bail by Islamabad court in relation to Samiya Hijab's alleged kidnapping incident
In a shocking turn of events, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has granted bail to Hassan Zahid, a man accused of attempting to kidnap social media influencer Samiya Hijab. The arrest warrant for Zahid was issued on Wednesday.
The incident took place outside Samiya Hijab's house, where she alleged that Zahid grabbed her, tried to force her into his car, and even attempted to take her phone. Following the incident, officers have been deployed outside Samiya Hijab's house for her security, as she reported receiving fresh death threats from the suspect.
Samiya Hijab, in a video posted on Instagram, stated that Zahid, identified by her as from Lahore, had been harassing her for months with threats and demands to marry him. She also invoked the recent murder of TikToker Sana, stating she does not want to become Sana due to rejecting a proposal.
The charges against Zahid are based on a complaint made by Samiya Hijab. He is nominated in two cases on charges of harassment, assault, abduction, and threats to life. However, in a hearing, Zahid's counsel argued that his client was innocent in the kidnapping case.
Despite the granted bail, Zahid remains in five-day physical remand in another case. The court approved the bail and fixed September 9 for arguments on Zahid's pre-arrest bail plea. Samiya Hijab confirmed undergoing a medical examination that verified evidence of physical assault.
The police are seeking to recover a weapon, two cars, a mobile phone, and Rs45,000 cash from the suspect. Shalimar police officials described the suspect's actions as intolerable, attempting to force an individual and abduct them.
Samiya Hijab appealed to Islamabad Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi for protection. After the fresh death threats, it was decided that she would be provided with additional security measures.
This case has raised concerns about the safety of social media influencers and the increasing instances of harassment and threats they face. The police have assured that they are taking necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, especially those in the public eye.
