Syracuse secures victory over Buffalo as Alvarez delivers a game-winning grand slam.
The Syracuse Mets took on the Buffalo Bisons at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, N.Y., and emerged victorious in a high-scoring affair, defeating their rivals 10-2.
The scoring began in the top of the third inning when Yonny Hernandez and Luis De Los Santos got on base, and Jose Siri scored the first run with a groundout. In the fifth, Kevin Parada walked and later scored on an RBI single by De Los Santos, making the score 8-0. The big break came in the bottom of the fifth when RJ Schreck hit a two-run single, reducing Syracuse's lead to 8-2.
However, the Mets responded with a flurry of runs. In the top of the eighth, Jett Williams blasted a two-run homer, increasing Syracuse's lead to a commanding 10-2. The homer, a 405-foot shot to left-center field, was Williams' second of the game.
The grand slam was hit by Francisco Alvarez in the fourth inning, extending Syracuse's lead to 7-0. Alvarez's impressive swing sent the ball soaring over the fence, providing the Mets with a significant advantage.
In his Triple-A debut, Colton Cosper closed the game for Syracuse with a clean ninth inning and two strikeouts. Richard Lovelady pitched two scoreless innings for the Mets, while Luis Moreno tossed three frames and allowed two runs. Carlos Guzman also contributed with a pair of scoreless innings, striking out three batters.
Justin Garza pitched a one-two-three eighth inning for Syracuse, maintaining the team's lead. Jonathan Pintaro, a right-handed pitcher in the New York Mets organization who made his MLB debut on June 25, 2025, is slated to start for Syracuse in the next game. Lazaro Estrada is set to go for Buffalo. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
