Portuguese Women's Football League: Damaiense Secure Top Spot, Famalicao Relegated

In a surprising turn of events, the Portuguese Women's Football League will welcome a new team for the 2025/26 season, with Damaiense securing their spot in the top division. This decision, which was confirmed by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), comes after Famalicao was relegated in the playoff against Rio Ave.

The journey for Damaiense, now based in the Algarve, began when the Arbitral Sports Tribunal (TAD) ruled in their favour, allowing them to participate in the women's league. This ruling was later confirmed by the FPF, who announced that Damaiense will be the team to occupy the vacant spot in the league.

The provisional measure placed Damaiense in the draw for the women's league, which was held on August 27. The Central Administrative Court of the South subsequently issued a decision in favour of Damaiense's appeal, officially confirming their participation.

Famalicao, on the other hand, was taken aback by the decision. They had based their sporting project on the information from the FPF about their integration in the women's league for the 2025/26 season. Famalicao's statement emphasised their surprise, as they had not received any contrary information until today.

In response, Famalicao Football Club is currently analysing the content of the decision and will act accordingly. They have contested the decision and argued their rights and arguments throughout the process.

As for the opening match, Damaiense will visit Sporting de Braga on September 13 and 14. Unfortunately, there are no available search results indicating when Famalicao will play in the women's football league.

The FPF initially invited Famalicao to take Damaiense's place in the women's league due to Damaiense not meeting licensing requirements. However, the Central Administrative Court of the South's decision has now sealed Damaiense's place in the top division.

This change in the league lineup is sure to bring excitement and anticipation for the upcoming season, as Damaiense embarks on their journey in the Portuguese Women's Football League.
