In a significant move towards enhancing energy security and supporting the transition away from coal, Taiwanese company CTCI has been awarded a NT$29.6bn contract by CPC Corporation for building a new regasification facility at the Kaohsiung Intercontinental LNG Receiving Terminal.

The project, named the "Kaohsiung Intercontinental LNG Receiving Terminal Regasification Facility Expansion Project," is part of Taiwan's larger efforts to expand its gas import capacity. This expansion is in line with global trends, as LNG demand is forecast to grow by 60% by 2040.

CTCI, known for its expertise in the field, plans to apply green and intelligent technologies to the regasification facility. This application is aimed at saving energy, cutting carbon emissions, and making construction more time-efficient. The facility, capable of processing up to 1,600 tonnes per hour, will convert liquefied natural gas from four cryogenic tanks, each with a capacity of 180,000 kilolitres at -162°C.

To ensure safety and quality during construction, CTCI will deploy in-house technologies such as a pipeline-cleaning robot and automated flange fastening modules. Cold energy recovered from the regasification process will power the site's air conditioning system, and seawater will be used for LNG heating during regasification.

The new facility, scheduled for completion in 2030, will be located at the Kaohsiung Intercontinental LNG Receiving Terminal. Notably, CTCI has provided services for all of Taiwan's operational LNG receiving terminals.

CTCI's work on the regasification facility is not limited to Taiwan. The company has contributed to 11 LNG projects in China, India, and Thailand, amounting to around 40 million tonnes a year of LNG supply capacity.

The expansion of the Kaohsiung LNG regasification facility is a significant step towards Taiwan's energy security and its transition away from coal. With its focus on green and intelligent technologies, CTCI is set to play a crucial role in this transition.
