Team renews agreement with earlier draft choice on multiple-year deal
Brooklyn Nets Re-Sign Forward Ziaire Williams to Multi-Year Deal
The Brooklyn Nets are set to close their offseason moves with the re-signing of forward Ziaire Williams. The 21-year-old, who was selected with the No. 10 pick in the 2021 draft by the Memphis Grizzlies, has agreed to a two-year, $12.5 million deal with a team option in year two.
Williams' change of scenery served him well last season, as he turned in a career-best campaign under first-year head coach Jordi Fernandez. He averaged 10.0 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, and 1.0 steals per game, while shooting 41% from the field, 34.1% from three-point range, and 82% from the free throw line. He also posted a 1.7 steal percentage, which ranked in the 74th percentile among NBA wings, per CleaningTheGlass.
With this re-signing, the number of players on standard contracts for the Brooklyn Nets increases to 19. The current cap space for the team remains undisclosed, but it can be increased to over $25 million by waiving their partially or non-guaranteed deals.
Joining Williams in the Nets' wing rotation are players such as Michael Porter Jr., Terance Mann, Jalen Wilson, and rookie first-round pick Drake Powell. It's worth noting that Ricky Council IV, who has not been under contract with the Brooklyn Nets neither previously nor is he currently signed to join the Nets, is not part of this group.
Williams played for the Memphis Grizzlies for three seasons before being traded to the Brooklyn Nets last offseason. During his time with the Grizzlies, he struggled offensively, averaging 7.5 points per game and shooting 30.1 percent from three. However, his performance as a point-of-attack defender was commendable.
The Nets acquired Williams and a second-round pick from the Memphis Grizzlies last offseason. Other players in the team include Haywood Highsmith, Tyrese Martin, Keon Johnson, Drew Timme, and Wilson, Martin, and Council.
As the Nets gear up for the upcoming season, the re-signing of Williams adds depth and potential to their roster. Fans and analysts alike are looking forward to seeing how he will perform in his new environment.
