The Joint Gambling Authority of the States (GGL) is set to strengthen its cooperation with gambling addiction coordination centers of individual federal states, aiming to address the issue of gambling addiction more effectively.

Ronald Benter, a GGL board member, recently had a meeting with Konrad Landgraf, the managing director of the Bavarian State Gambling Addiction Center (LSG). Benter expressed his desire to understand the work of various state centers, and during the meeting, Benter learned about the work of the LSG.

The GGL aims to channel the existing demand for gambling into the legal market, while ensuring that potentially addicted players are protected. To achieve this, the GGL plans to improve the platform buwei.de, which provides an overview of all state coordination centers. Currently, the platform is operated by the Bavarian LSG.

The GGL also wants to expand its expertise through thematic exchange with state coordination centers. Further exchange and networking opportunities are planned between the GGL and state coordination centers, and a meeting with all representatives of the state centers is scheduled to take place in the GGL's premises later in the fall.

The activities of organizations like GambleAware could serve as a model for Germany. In England, around 1.65 million children grow up in households affected by gambling addiction. The National Gambling Support Network (NGSN) is trying to counteract this development.

Player protection and raising public awareness are top priorities for the GGL. Benter stated this during his meeting with Landgraf, and the GGL is planning to implement measures such as education and awareness campaigns, data sharing, regulatory measures, and support services to address the issue.

The annual Action Day against Gambling Addiction will take place on September 25, 2024. During this event, there may be an opportunity for networking between GGL representatives and the contact persons of the state centers.

In addition, the GGL is considering integrating the LSG into the overarching Netzwerk Sucht Bayern network, and Landgraf discussed this during the meeting with Benter. The range of counseling and therapy options offered by the LSG was presented during the discussion.

Casino-and-gambling activities in Germany could see increased regulation through the GGL, as they aim to improve cooperation with state coordination centers such as the Bavarian State Gambling Addiction Center (LSG). This includes the potential integration of LSG into the overarching Netzwerk Sucht Bayern network, offering a wider range of counseling and therapy options for those struggling with gambling addiction. Online casinos in Germany may also be subject to stricter regulations and support services as part of the GGL's efforts to protect potentially addicted players and raise public awareness about gambling addiction.
