Google's "AI Mode" Expands Globally

Tech Giants YouTube, Google, and Spotify Unveil Exciting New Features

In a significant move, Google has extended its "AI Mode" feature to 180 countries, aiming to provide users with more contextually relevant results. This expansion, however, may raise concerns among competitors and regulators as Google integrates AI-based solutions further into daily life.

YouTube's New "Hype" Feature for Smaller Creators

Meanwhile, YouTube has introduced a new feature called "Hype" to help smaller creators gain more visibility. The system works by awarding points to videos, which can propel them onto a new, popularity-based leaderboard. Viewers can hype up to three videos per week to support their favourite creators, and videos that gain popularity through Hypes will display a "Hyped" badge.

Currently, YouTube is testing paid Hypes in Brazil and Turkey, with plans to potentially expand to other regions in the future. Smaller creators receive a larger boost to promote fairness in the Hype system.

Spotify's In-App Messaging and Content Scanning

Spotify has also joined the fray by introducing a new messaging feature within the app. Users can access this feature via the profile picture in the top left corner of the app. Messages are one-to-one, support text and emoji reactions, and are protected by industry-standard encryption.

To ensure a safe and positive user experience, Spotify will scan messages for harmful content and review user reports.

Agentic Restaurant Finder

In another development, Google has introduced the "Agentic Restaurant Finder" feature. This innovative tool allows users to search for restaurant reservations using natural language queries, making it easier than ever to find the perfect dining spot.

User Control Over Messaging and Privacy

Both Google's and Spotify's new features prioritise user control and privacy. Users can accept or decline message requests, block other users, or completely disable the messaging function.

The Hype feature is currently available in 39 countries, including Germany, the US, UK, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and India. However, there is no public information available about which countries Google will select in the future as test areas for selling additional hype features on YouTube.

Future Possibilities

In the future, fans may have the opportunity to purchase additional Hypes to further support their favourite videos. Google's "AI Mode" continues to evolve, using AI models to understand contextual information and provide more relevant results.

As these tech giants continue to innovate, it will be interesting to see how these new features shape the way we interact with content online.
