Telecom begins to broaden its optical fiber network across the Oberviechtacher Region
In an exciting development for the Oberviechtach region, Deutsche Telekom has commenced construction work on a modern fiber optic network expansion. This move is set to revolutionize the local digital landscape, providing a stable and reliable Wi-Fi connection for households and businesses.
The expansion will reach approximately 314 households and businesses, offering them significantly higher speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second. This robust fiber optic network is less prone to errors and more resilient against external influences such as water, making it the ideal choice for digital learning, work, streaming, and gaming, all at the same time.
Mayor Rudolf Teplitzky expressed his delight about the start of the work, emphasizing the potential benefits this expansion will bring to the region. Telekom sales representatives will be providing door-to-door consulting for fiber optic connections, ensuring that residents and businesses are well-informed about the advantages of this technology.
The first customers will be connected in a few months, with the network expansion expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Telekom will lay over 85 kilometers of fiber optic cable directly to homes in the region.
Fiber optic is not only technologically superior but also environmentally friendly. It consumes less energy than the copper network, making it a good choice for the climate.

The expansion is not limited to Oberviechtach. Nearby towns and municipalities, including Neunburg vorm Wald, Thanhausen, and Dalking, will also receive the fiber optic expansion. The expansion schedule for these areas spans from 2024 to 2025, and participation requires registering interest via Telekom's online portal to confirm demand and ensure infrastructure rollout.
Fiber optic increases the value of a property and is future-proof, making it the best technology for the next few decades. Homeowners who have not yet given their consent for the home connection of their property can still do so to take advantage of the connection.
Businesses in the region will benefit from the expansion, as they can react flexibly to the constantly growing digital requirements. Customer advisors, who can be identified by the Telekom logo on their clothing, an ID card, and an authorization letter from Telekom, will be on hand to guide businesses through the process.
As part of the expansion, 13 new network distributors will be installed. This significant investment in the region's digital infrastructure is set to transform the way residents and businesses connect and communicate, paving the way for a more connected and digitally advanced Oberviechtach region.
