Telecommunication Infrastructure Destruction: More Than 200 Sites in Swat, Buner, and Shangla Districts Suffered Damage

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been at the forefront of restoring telecom services in areas affected by the recent floods and landslides in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. During a high-level visit to Buner, PTA officials met with Minister for Political Affairs Amir Muqam and PTI MNA Gohar Ali Khan to discuss the ongoing efforts.

In a commendable display of dedication and technical efficiency, the PTA managed to restore nearly 85 percent of the affected telecom sites within 48 hours. This swift restoration was widely appreciated by local stakeholders, with political leaders praising the PTA's proactive approach.

"Restoring telecom services in such a short timeframe is a testament to PTA's commitment and the resilience of our digital infrastructure," said the political leaders.

Several telecom companies have also stepped up to support the affected residents, emergency responders, and relief agencies. Telenor Pakistan announced free minutes for subscribers in flood-hit areas of KP and GB. Zong provided 30 free ZONG on net minutes and 30 SMS to all networks in affected areas, valid for three days. Ufone 4G offered free minutes to users in the worst-hit districts of Bajaur, Buner, Battagram, and Batal (Mansehra). Jazz offered free all-network and PTCL calls for subscribers in flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The importance of uninterrupted connectivity during emergencies was emphasized by political leaders. The PTA, in collaboration with these telecom operators, has been repairing over 100 telecom sites across Swat, Buner, and Shangla districts, which were damaged due to torrential rains and flash floods.

The PTA pledged continued support to ensure service stability as recovery efforts progress. They reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining robust communication networks, especially in disaster-prone regions. The PTA teams coordinated closely with federal and provincial authorities, district administrations, and technical teams from cellular mobile operators to ensure smooth and efficient restoration of services.

Both leaders lauded the PTA's efforts, appreciating their technical efficiency in reestablishing communication services under challenging conditions. The swift restoration efforts have been instrumental in keeping the affected regions connected during these difficult times.
