Telecommunications company PowerCom enhances its network reach in Oikokola, enthused by support from Telecom Namibia, as they erect a brand-new tower.

In a significant step towards bridging the digital divide between urban and rural communities, Telecom Namibia, led by CEO Dr. Stanley Shanapinda, has launched a new mobile network tower in Oikokola, Etayi Constituency. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Honourable Minister of Information and Communication Technology and the Honourable Governor of the Omusati Region.

The tower, a subsidiary project of Telecom Namibia under PowerCom, is a significant milestone in the company's ongoing mission to connect every corner of Namibia to reliable telecommunications services. Dr. Shanapinda described the tower as a crucial step towards achieving this goal, stating that it would stimulate the development of enterprises and improve communication across the country.

PowerCom, which is 100% owned by Telecom Namibia, has been working diligently to expand its tower infrastructure in line with national development goals. The new Oikokola tower is expected to strengthen mobile coverage, transforming previous "dead zones" into vital hubs of connectivity for residents and businesses in the area.

The project aligns with the government's newly launched Digital Strategy, which aims to provide fast internet connectivity. Dr. Shanapinda confirmed that the project is part of Telecom Namibia's Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP), which has been approved by the Government.

The tower launch was the result of effective collaboration and a shared vision among various stakeholders, including PowerCom, Telecom Namibia, and the Local Authority. Besides these entities, local government authorities and community leaders were also involved in the coordination and planning of the mobile network tower installation.

Dr. Shanapinda emphasized that connectivity is a catalyst for socio-economic growth. He reiterated that the Oikokola tower launch aligns with Telecom Namibia's ISBP, which has been approved by the Government. He also confirmed that 2G, 3G, and 4G mobile services have been activated on the tower.

The new Oikokola tower is part of PowerCom's efforts to collaborate with Telecom Namibia and the Local Authority in achieving a shared vision for improved rural connectivity. This initiative is a testament to Telecom Namibia's commitment to expanding its network, covering about 93% of the Namibian population with 2G, 3G, or 4G services. The mobile network now covers a vast majority of the population, thanks to efforts like the Oikokola tower launch.

The new tower is expected to continue strengthening mobile coverage, transforming previous "dead zones" into vital hubs of connectivity for residents and businesses in the area. This development is set to level the playing field between urban and rural communities by bringing digital services to everyone, fostering socio-economic growth in rural Namibia.
