Deutsche Telekom Expands Mobile Network, Closing Coverage Gaps Across Germany

In a significant move to enhance mobile connectivity, Deutsche Telekom AG announced the expansion of its mobile network in July 2025. This expansion has brought 4G coverage almost to 100% across the country.

The expansion involves the deployment of 115 new mobile sites, all of which will utilize low-band frequencies (700, 800, and 900 MHz), offering high range and good network coverage. This move is expected to improve the overall network performance, providing a more reliable service to users.

One of the notable sites put into operation is located north of Obertiefendorf, which ends the lack of coverage for residents and visitors in Mödlareuth. This village in Bavaria, home to the German-German Museum that attracts 80,000 visitors annually, has now closed its coverage gap on July 31, 2025.

The newly established Telekom mobile phone site in Mödlareuth, Bavaria, is located approximately at 50.4375° N latitude and 11.6103° E longitude.

In addition to the new sites, capacity was increased at 741 existing sites. North Rhine-Westphalia led the list with 154 capacity expansions at existing sites. The most new sites were launched in North Rhine-Westphalia, with a total of 23.

Deutsche Telekom is also building an Ultra-Capacity Network, aimed at doubling the network's capacity. 90% of sites will offer a download capacity of 1 Gbps per second per cell in the future, while an additional 90% will receive mid-band frequencies (1.500, 1.800, and 2.100 MHz), enabling high data rates and low response times.

The 3.6-GHz band will be used specifically at transportation hubs to keep mobile usage smooth. This move is expected to improve the mobile experience for commuters and travellers, ensuring a seamless connection during their journeys.

Customers with MagentaZuhause Hybrid connection benefit from the continuous expansion of Telekom's mobile network. With Hybrid, fixed-line connections with download speeds of 16 Mbps or 50 Mbps can deliver nearly nationwide speeds of up to 100 Mbps.

Deutsche Telekom provides updates on the expansion and operation of the mobile and fiber optic network via a WhatsApp channel named "Telekom Netzausbau". This channel keeps users informed about the ongoing developments and improvements in the network, ensuring they are always up-to-date with the latest advancements.

With these expansions and improvements, Deutsche Telekom is making significant strides in providing reliable and high-speed mobile connectivity across Germany, ensuring a better digital experience for its customers. Over 98% of households nationwide can access Telekom's 5G network, with 5G activated at 257 of these sites for the first time. This expansion is set to continue, with Deutsche Telekom committed to enhancing its network and delivering the best possible service to its customers.
