In a disappointing turn of events for German tennis fans, both Daniel Altmaier and Laura Siegemund have been knocked out of the US Open.

In the men's draw, Altmaier started the match promisingly against world No. 8 Alex de Minaur, but struggled against the Australian's consistent and agile play. The retirement occurred during the match, with the score at 7:6 (9:7), 3:6, 4:6, 0:2 in de Minaur's favour. Altmaier took a medical timeout mid-third set to address a thigh injury, but after the timeout, he continued playing with a bandage on his thigh. No diagnosis for the injury has been announced yet, with a possible update expected by Sunday.

Altmaier expressed his frustration about not being able to play at 100% due to the injury, stating that he felt the injury in his thigh and other parts of his body, particularly on his serve and forehand.

In the women's draw, Laura Siegemund, the last remaining German participant, faced world No. 12 Jekaterina Alexandrova. Despite an unhealed thigh injury, Siegemund could not offer much resistance to Alexandrova's powerful shots. The one-sided duel ended in just 60 minutes, with Alexandrova winning 0:6, 1:6.

Siegemund admitted that Alexandrova's shots were too powerful for her to handle, and that the Russian's style has significantly improved in the last one or two years. Alexandrova hits every ball at a speed of eight million km/h, a question that Siegemund found no answers to during their match.

Jan-Lennard Struff was another German hope for the quarterfinals, but he lost his match against Novak Djokovic and thus did not reach the quarterfinals. Struff was set to face the winner of the match between Mackenzie McDonald and Mackenzie Montag in the quarterfinals of the US Open.

Siegemund stated that her battery was completely empty during the match, and it remains to be seen how she will recover for future tournaments. Altmaier and Siegemund's early exits from the US Open mark a disappointing end to their campaigns in New York.
