German Tennis Star Daniel Altmaier Triumphs Over Stefanos Tsitsipas in Epic Five-Set US Open Battle

In an electrifying display of resilience and determination, 26-year-old Daniel Altmaier claimed the biggest victory of his career at the US Open, defeating former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas in a thrilling five-set match. The final scores read 7:6, 1:6, 4:6, 6:3, 7:5.

The match, which lasted an exhausting 4 hours and 21 minutes, was not without its controversies. A dispute between the two players arose during the fourth set, centred around an underarm serve by Altmaier. Despite the tension, Altmaier managed to convert his first match point just past midnight (local time), securing his place in the third round.

After the intense battle, Altmaier expressed his emotions, saying, "I left my heart out there on the court. Moments like these are why I play tennis." He also acknowledged the disagreements that can occur in sports, especially after a five-set match, and emphasised that such incidents are part of the sport.

Meanwhile, fellow German tennis players Jan-Lennard Struff and Laura Siegemund are also still in the running for Germany in the US Open. Struff advanced to the third round, while Siegemund is preparing for her next match.

Alexander Zverev, another German player, also progressed to the third round, defeating British player Fearnley.

As Altmaier prepares for his next round match against the eighth-seeded Alex de Minaur (Australia), the tennis world eagerly awaits to see if he can continue his remarkable run at the US Open. This is Altmaier's fourth appearance at the Grand Slam tournament in New York, but his first time reaching the third round.

Despite Tsitsipas' claims that the underarm serve was a tactic to unsettle him, Altmaier's victory serves as a testament to his skill and tenacity on the court. This win undoubtedly marks a significant milestone in Altmaier's tennis career, and fans are excited to see what the future holds for this rising star.
