Tennis Tournament Updates: Iga Swiatek Overcomes Suzan Lamens, Naomi Osaka Advances in US Open 2025 Second Round
In the ongoing US Open at Flushing Meadows, two tennis stars have progressed to the third round, each making significant strides in their respective careers.
Iga Swiatek, the fourth-seeded player, has reached the third round in 23 consecutive women's singles grand slam events, a feat that places her fourth in the Open Era after Martina Navratilova, Conchita Martinez, and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario. In her second round match against Suzan Lamens, Swiatek dropped only one game in the first set and managed to win the match despite Lamens converting three break points in the second set to force a deciding set. The final score was 6-1 4-6 6-4, and Swiatek will face Anna Kalinskaya in the third round.
Meanwhile, three-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka also progressed to the third round. Osaka, who is coached by Tomasz Wiktorowski, has enjoyed an eight-match winning streak since his appointment. In her second round match against Hailey Baptiste, Osaka dropped only one service game and won comfortably with a score of 6-3 6-1. The match duration was 70 minutes.
Osaka will face either Daria Kasatkina or Kamilla Rakhimova in the third round, as their second round match is yet to be played.
Swiatek's match against Kalinskaya will be a significant milestone in her career, as she continues her impressive run in the US Open without losing a set in the first two rounds.
