Tension flares between Caitlin Clark and a past teammate, resulting in a harsh action during a heated altercation, leading to the Fever's defeat.

DeWanna Bonner, the two-time WNBA champion, returned to Indiana on July 30, this time with the Phoenix Mercury. The visit, however, was not as triumphant as one might expect, as Bonner was heavily booed by the home crowd.

The game between the Fever and the Mercury was a tense affair, with the Phoenix team leading by 15 points at halftime. The Fever, currently struggling to secure a playoff spot with a record of 21-20, made a late comeback, but only managed to cut the lead to six points.

The Mercury, who are currently in the 4th seed with a record of 26-14, claimed their fifth straight victory, thanks in part to Bonner's contributions. However, the game was not without incident. There was a heated moment between Bonner and Caitlin Clark, a popular Fever forward, due to a disputed foul call during the game.

Bonner's exit from the Indiana Fever in June, after just nine games due to personal reasons and a desire for a different team environment, left a bad taste in the mouths of Indy fans. Sophie Cunningham, another Fever forward, publicly criticised Bonner's departure.

Bonner, who spent ten years with the Phoenix Mercury between 2009 and 2019, returned to her former franchise after being waived by the Indiana Fever at her request. Her return was not without controversy, as the strained relationship between Bonner and the Fever was evident during the game.

Despite the heated moment and the close scoreline, the Mercury managed to hold on for the win, extending their winning streak to five games. The Fever will need to regroup and improve their performance if they are to secure a playoff spot in the remaining games of the season.
