Tent on Wiesn experiences sudden shift in beer supplier
The Munich Stubn tent at this year's Oktoberfest is undergoing a significant change. After years of serving Paulaner beer, the tent will now be pouring Spaten.
Kathrin Wickenhaüser-Egger and her husband, who run the Munich Stubn restaurant at the main station, have been relying on Paulaner for their Oktoberfest celebrations. However, they feel that they and their business were important to the brewery when Andreas Steinfatt was in charge. With Steinfatt's retirement scheduled for 2024, they have made the decision to switch to Spaten.
The Wickenhaüser-Egger's Munich Stubn restaurant is not tied to a fixed brewery, and they have taken the initiative to make this change. After Steinfatt's retirement, they no longer felt taken care of by the brewery.
The switch in breweries is not due to issues at the operational level or daily business, but rather at the management level. Since Steinfatt's retirement, there have been significant changes at the Paulaner brewery.
This change in brewery is an unusual occurrence at the Oktoberfest. Arabella Schörghuber is the last innkeeper of the Paulaner tent for this year, while Lorenz and Christine Stiftl will take over the Paulaner tent in 2026.
The new brewery representative taking over the Munich Stubn at the Oktoberfest event starting in 2026 is Thomas Müller, who will be the brand ambassador for Erdinger Weißbräu from January 1, 2026.
The new logos of Spaten are already up in the Munich Stubn tent, and a Spaten Mass will cost 15.80 euros. The switch in breweries is just one of the changes happening at the Oktoberfest this year. Headlines about Paulaner a few weeks ago highlighted changes in the Oktoberfest lineup.
For those who have been frequenting the Munich Stubn tent in the past, the change may come as a surprise. However, Kathrin Wickenhaüser-Egger and her husband are confident in their decision and are looking forward to serving Spaten at this year's Oktoberfest.
