Technics Introduces the SL-40CBT Direct-Drive Turntable

Technics, the renowned Japanese audio brand, is set to release a new direct-drive turntable aimed at vinyl newcomers and those upgrading from entry-level turntables. The Technics SL-40CBT will be available from September 2025 for $899.

The SL-40CBT is equipped with electronic speed control for 33 1/3 and 45rpm, ensuring smooth and precise playback. It features a newly designed high-precision S-shaped aluminum tonearm for improved tracking and accuracy.

One of the standout features of the SL-40CBT is its coreless motor technology, which is also found in the SL-1300G. This technology provides reliable torque transmission and accurate speed, contributing to the turntable's overall performance.

The SL-40CBT also offers Bluetooth streaming to compatible headphones and speakers, making it a versatile option for modern audio setups. However, the details of the Bluetooth version and codec(s) have not been revealed yet.

The SL-40CBT's platter is die-cast aluminum with reinforcing ribs, and it is directly mounted for enhanced torque transmission. The turntable sits on vibration-resistant insulator feet, further reducing any potential vibrations that could affect the sound quality.

The SL-40CBT comes with a factory-fitted Audio-Technica AT-VM95C cartridge with a conical stylus, ready for you to start playing your vinyl collection right out of the box. The turntable's plinth is made from MDF instead of die-cast aluminum, making it a more affordable option compared to the SL-1300G.

The SL-40CBT is available in MDF plinths in terracotta, black, or light grey, allowing you to choose a colour that suits your audio setup. Pricing in other countries for the SL-40CBT will be announced shortly.

In addition, the SL-40CBT has been designed to match Technics' SC-CX700 wireless speakers, making it an ideal pairing for a complete audio system. The SL-40CBT also includes an integrated, switchable moving magnet phono stage, making it easy to connect to a wide range of audio systems.

The Technics SL-40CBT is a promising addition to the direct-drive turntable market, offering a blend of performance, affordability, and modern features. Whether you're a vinyl newcomer or an experienced collector looking for an upgrade, the SL-40CBT could be the perfect choice for you.
