Tesla Begins Deliveries of Model Y in India

Tesla, the American electric vehicle manufacturer, has started customer deliveries in India. The first Model Y was delivered to Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik in Mumbai, marking a significant milestone for the company in the Indian market.

The Tesla Experience Center in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai, was the first retail outlet in India, opening on July 15. A second Experience Center has since been added in New Delhi, located at Worldmark 3 in Aerocity, which officially opened on August 11.

Deliveries of the Model Y are now rolling out across key markets including Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram, and Pune. Tesla is offering two versions of the Model Y in India: one with Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and another with Long Range RWD.

The base Model Y RWD version in India costs ₹59.89 lakh (C$97,000/US$71,800), while the Long Range RWD version is priced at ₹67.89 lakh (C$110,000/US$81,400). These prices are significantly higher due to nearly 100% import duties.

Despite the high prices, Tesla has secured approximately 600 orders for the Model Y in India since its official launch in July. The low number of orders is attributed to the high price due to nearly 100% import duties.

Minister Sarnaik purchased his white Model Y at full price, without discounts, making him one of the first customers to receive the vehicle in India. Additional handovers will happen soon, as Tesla continues to expand its presence in the Indian market.

Tesla also offers an additional ₹6 lakh (C$9,700/US$7,200) for its Full Self-Driving (FSD) package in India. The company's commitment to electric vehicles and advanced technology is expected to drive growth and innovation in the Indian automotive industry.
