Texan Head Coach prospects continue to favor Kansas City's Offensive Coordinator, Bieniemy, with Brian Schottenheimer seeing an upward trend in odds.

Houston Texans Head Coaching Vacancy: Top Candidates and Odds

The Houston Texans are on the hunt for a new head coach following the end of their 2020 season. With a third-year quarterback Deshaun Watson in their ranks, the position is considered an attractive prospect.

Among the potential candidates, Eric Bieniemy, the Kansas City Chiefs' offensive coordinator, remains the favourite to take the helm. As of January 4, Bieniemy's odds to be the Texans' next head coach are 175.

Bieniemy's offensive strategies have been instrumental in the Chiefs' success, particularly in the 2020 season where rookie quarterback Justin Herbert of the Chargers also impressed with his performance.

Another notable candidate is Brian Schottenheimer, who transformed the Seattle offense. Schottenheimer's odds to be the Texans' next head coach are 350. His innovative strategies and Watson's impressive 2020 season (4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions) could make for a compelling partnership.

However, the Texans may be more likely to hire a coach already in the NFL, rather than a college coach like Matt Campbell. Campbell's innovative wrinkles on both sides of the ball make him an intriguing candidate for the pro game, but he may face stiff competition.

Iowa State's Matt Campbell led the Cyclones to a winning record each of the last four seasons, a school first, and was named the Big 12 coach of the year three times in the last four years. His offense features two or three tight ends and a power inside running game, which seems to fit the current trends in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Baltimore Ravens DC Don "Wink" Martindale's defensive unit finished the season as the second-fewest points allowed per game (18.9) and seventh-fewest yards allowed (329.8). Martindale's defensive unit had 42 defensive starters, 65 defensive players who took a snap, and 21 defensive players on IR.

Other candidates for the Texans' head coaching position include Joe Brady, Brian Daboll, Lincoln Riley, Marvin Lewis, Robert Saleh, Greg Roman, Dabo Swinney, Bryan Leftwich, Jim Harbaugh, Matt Eberflus, Romeo Crenel, and Josh McDaniels, with varying odds.

The current head coach of the Texans, DeMeco Ryans, is not mentioned as a high-probability contender for the position. The team will undoubtedly be considering all options carefully as they search for the right fit to lead them into the future.
