Texas Military Forces getting ready for a possible dispatch to Chicago, with federal agencies staging in northern suburbs; Governor Pritzker confirms
In a developing situation, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has revealed that President Donald Trump is positioning armed federal agents and military vehicles at Naval Station Great Lakes in North Chicago. This announcement comes as Republican state Representative Martin McLaughlin supports the deployment of National Guard in Chicago, believing they are protecting other Americans.
Governor Pritzker, however, has expressed concerns about the potential deployment, warning against taking President Trump's actions as a provocation. He believes the President might use minor incidents, such as someone throwing a sandwich at an ICE agent, as an excuse to declare an emergency in Chicago and deploy the National Guard and ICE agents.
In response, Governor Pritzker is expected to meet with community violence intervention leaders for emergency training to prepare for these federal deployments. The training is scheduled for later this week.
Staging for the deployment began on Monday, with many of the federal agents being deployed in Chicago being relocated from immigration operations in Los Angeles. The exact timing of the deployment remains uncertain.
The Texas National Guard is also preparing for a Chicago deployment, but no new information has been provided about the progress of this preparation.
Meanwhile, Governor Pritzker maintains that the operation named "Midway Blitz" is taking place in Chicago, with the US state of Illinois currently represented with National Guard troops and additional ICE staff. The exact start date of this operation, which was announced to begin around late August 2025, remains unclear.
However, no new information has been provided about the relocation of federal agents from immigration operations in Los Angeles to Chicago or about how President Trump could use the National Guard in Chicago.
As the situation continues to unfold, it is clear that tensions remain high, and the future deployment of the National Guard and ICE agents in Chicago remains a topic of significant concern and debate.
