Confident Outcome in Texas Senate Race Affirmed by Cornyn; Paxton Encouraged to Review Ten Commandments

Texas Senator Cornyn expresses optimism regarding the outcome of the forthcoming Senate race, and poses a directive for Attorney General Paxton to study the Ten Commandments diligently.

A recent poll from Texas Southern University and YouGov has shown a tight race in the primary election for the Texas Senate, with Attorney General Ken Paxton leading incumbent Senator John Cornyn by 5 percentage points. The poll also found that Democratic candidate Beto O'Rourke is leading Colin Allred by 20 percentage points in the Democratic primary.

The race has become increasingly heated, with both candidates engaging in a social media battle. Last week, Paxton posted on social media that Cornyn is not a MAGA Republican but pretends to be one on TV. In response, Cornyn accused Paxton of hypocrisy, citing the impeachment, indictment for securities fraud, whistleblower lawsuit, and family issues as examples.

Despite the back-and-forth, Cornyn believes that character still matters in politics. He stated that his fight against Paxton serves as a test of character. Cornyn also believes that his voting record supporting President Trump will be a significant factor in the election.

Our News Texas reached out to Paxton's campaign for an on-camera interview, but they did not respond. Jack Fink, who covers politics for KTVT-TV, has been with the station since September 2003 and has been closely following the race.

In the Democratic primary for the Texas Senate seat, Colin Allred and Terry Virts have entered the race so far. However, Beto O'Rourke, Joaquin Castro, and James Talarico are considering entering the primary. The primary election is scheduled for March if Cornyn wants a chance for a fifth term.

The poll also found that 17% of voters are undecided. With the race heating up, it will be interesting to see how the candidates continue to campaign and how the undecided voters make their decisions. Stay tuned for more updates on the Texas Senate race.
