The celestial structure, the expansive sky, the shining stars, the mysterious black hole, and the local planetarium - Bochum.

The Bochum Planetarium, a beacon of cosmic exploration in Germany, opened its doors to the public on November 6, 1964. Over the years, this stellar institution has undergone several transformations, with a significant overhaul taking place in the mid-1980s.

In 1986, the Zeiss planetarium projector at the Bochum Planetarium was given a much-needed upgrade. This was followed by another improvement the following year, when the star projector was renewed, making the Bochum Planetarium home to the most modern star projector in the world in 1987.

Fast forward to 2010, and the Bochum Planetarium acquired a full-dome video system from Zeiss, further enhancing its capabilities. The seating in the planetarium also received an upgrade that year, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience for its visitors.

More modernizations took place in 2020, although the specifics of these updates remain unclear. What we do know is that the Bochum Planetarium continues to evolve, keeping pace with the ever-advancing field of astronomy.

It's worth noting that the astronomy show at the Bochum Planetarium does not allow photography, a testament to the immersive and awe-inspiring nature of the experience it offers.

The day trip to the Bochum Planetarium was organised and conducted by the AWO Auguste Sindermann Day Care Center in Herne, providing a unique educational opportunity for its young charges.

As we look to the future, the Bochum Planetarium stands as a testament to human curiosity and our ceaseless quest to understand the universe. Its continued modernization ensures that it remains a vital resource for astronomy enthusiasts and casual stargazers alike.
