The automotive world is abuzz with the unveiling of the latest iteration of the VW T-Roc. This compact SUV has undergone significant changes, boasting improved aerodynamics, new hybrid variants, and a host of other exciting features.
Aerodynamic Improvements and Size
The new T-Roc boasts a best-in-class aerodynamic coefficient (Cd) of 0.29, achieved in Setúbal, Portugal. This marks a significant improvement over its predecessor. Despite this, the new T-Roc remains only one centimeter wider and one centimeter taller than its predecessor. It's also worth noting that the T-Roc is only five centimeters shorter than the first VW Tiguan produced until 2018.
Longer and More Spacious
The new T-Roc is up to 13.7 centimeters longer than its predecessor, providing more interior space. The rear seats offer good space for two adults despite a modest 28 mm increase in wheelbase. The trunk capacity has also increased, offering 465 liters, an increase of 20 liters compared to the previous model.
Hybrid Powertrains
Two full hybrid variants of the new T-Roc will be available, with system power of up to 170 PS and 306 Newton meters. These hybrid versions will offer a 15 percent consumption advantage compared to the eTSI versions according to WLTP. Interestingly, Volkswagen has developed the full hybrid drive systems entirely from scratch and will manufacture these variants starting from mid-2026.
R-Line and Performance Variants
The T-Roc R, known for its performance, is expected to have around 350 PS, a few more horses than the current model. The T-Roc R will come with a mandatory 4Motion all-wheel drive and visible tailpipes. Furthermore, large wheels and R-Line optics can break the 0.30 barrier in aerodynamics.
Standard and Optional Features
The base engine for the new T-Roc is a 1.5-liter TSI four-cylinder with 115 PS, paired with a 7-speed DSG. Fabric seats come standard, with certified health seats available from the Life trim level upwards. Leather seats with massage functionality are available but not standard.
The T-Roc features genuine steering wheel buttons, traditional mirror adjustment, and power windows. The driver's seat is an Ergo-Active seat with extendable thigh support, adjustable tilt, and four-way lumbar support. The rear hatch opens with optional electromechanical assistance.
Pricing
The new T-Roc starts at 30,845 euros (gross), about 5,000 euros more than the previous T-Roc in base trim due to the mandatory DSG.
In conclusion, the new VW T-Roc offers a blend of style, performance, and practicality. With its improved aerodynamics, new hybrid powertrains, and enhanced interior space, it's shaping up to be a compelling choice in the compact SUV segment.
