Frankfurt's World War II Bomb Safely Detonated

A 250-kilogram dud bomb from World War II was safely detonated on a field in Frankfurt district, Nieder-Erlenbach, causing a massive blast with a smoke cloud several hundred meters high. The decision to remove the bomb was made by the responsible bomb disposal authorities.

The bomb was discovered in the district of Nieder-Erlenbach, Frankfurt am Main, and its detonation resulted in damage to an overhead power line. Experts from an energy provider inspected the scene following the bomb detonation to assess the damage and ensure the safety of the power supply.

Fortunately, only a few rural homes had to be evacuated as no residential areas were affected. The fire department previously stated that the discovered bomb posed an immediate threat to life and needed to be neutralized immediately. A 1,000-meter radius around the discovery site was declared a restricted area during the measures.

The operation to detonate the bomb was carried out by the fire and police departments. A thick cable was found on the ground after the bomb detonation, but the nature and origin of the cable are yet to be determined.

Before the bomb detonation, the fire department issued an alert via apps to ensure the safety of the public. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing presence of World War II relics and the importance of prompt action when such discoveries are made.
