In a surprising turn of events, former world number one tennis player Daniil Medvedev is currently experiencing a season that falls short of his usual standards. This shift was highlighted by his first-round loss to Benjamin Bonzi at the US Open.

Following this defeat, Medvedev's long-term coach, Gilles Cervara, has ended their collaboration. The French coach's new coaching assignment has not been explicitly named in the search results. Cervara had been working with Medvedev for eight seasons, a partnership that yielded significant success, including a victory at Flushing Meadows in 2021.

Cervara, in a heartfelt Instagram post on Sunday, expressed gratitude for the shared experiences in tennis with Medvedev, referring to an "atypical magic" that he believes will return for the Russian player. He also mentioned that he loved training, coaching, supporting, and finding solutions with Medvedev during their collaboration.

The collaboration between the two resulted in a total of twenty tournament wins, six of which were Masters 1000 titles. Medvedev also secured a victory at the Masters in 2020. The partnership also led to six Grand Slam final appearances, with a title at Flushing Meadows in 2021 being the highlight.

However, the reasons for the collaboration's end and the current struggles in Medvedev's season remain unclear. Cervara's Instagram post indicated that the separation was amicable.

Medvedev's performance in the current season has not replicated the level he achieved with Cervara. His elimination in the first round of the US Open by Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi further underscores this.

Despite this setback, Medvedev, now without Cervara, will continue to strive for success in the upcoming tournaments. The tennis world eagerly awaits to see who his new coach will be and how this change will impact his game.
