After a 13-year hiatus, the MBC Campus Song Festival is making a comeback, set to take place on October 3, 2025, at Korea Maritime & Ocean University in Busan, South Korea.

Originally launched in 1977, this Korean college music competition has been a showcase for emerging college talent, pitting students from across the country against one another with original songs. The festival welcomes a wide variety of genres, including ballads, dance, and traditional Korean music, encouraging a broad range of musical styles and expressions.

The competition is open to university and graduate students, both domestic and international, with no age limit. Eligible applicants can be solo artists or groups of students currently enrolled or on leave of absence. The first preliminary round took place in mid-August in Seoul, followed by the second preliminary round on September 1, 2025.

The MBC Campus Song Festival has launched the careers of several well-known musicians, including Sanulrim (now known as Kim Chang-wan Band), Shin Hae-chul (a member of Infinite Track), and Kim Dong-ryul. The finals of the competition are scheduled for the same day as the main event, October 3, 2025.

A subsequent TV broadcast of the finals is planned, providing a platform for these aspiring musicians to reach a wider audience. The popularity of the festival waned amid the rise of structured trainee systems within major entertainment agencies and the boom of TV competitions in the Korean entertainment landscape. However, with its return, the MBC Campus Song Festival aims to regain its status as a significant player in the discovery and nurturing of new talent.

The MBC Campus Song Festival is more than just a competition; it's an opportunity for students to showcase their creativity, passion, and dedication to music. It's a testament to the power of music to bring people together and to provide a stage for the next generation of artists. So, whether you're a student with a dream or a music lover eager to discover the next big thing, mark your calendars for October 3, 2025, and join us in celebrating the return of the MBC Campus Song Festival.
