The persistent triumph of VfR Büttgen remains on the rise
In the world of cycling, Germany has been a breeding ground for talented riders, and the latest race series has been no exception. Here's a roundup of some of the notable performances:
Alexander Immel, the youngest licensed racer of his club, added another season victory to his tally, winning the Dormagen cycling race. The young woman from Büttgen also secured her daily podium spot, finishing second in a competition.
Meanwhile, Kilian Schmitz, a U13 student, has been making waves in the cycling community. He won two daily competitions in the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Bellheim, securing his thirteenth and fourteenth season victories. Schmitz's team, Team Sportforums, showcased their skills at the Düsseldorf cycling race, "Rund um die Kö," but unfortunately, there were no junior races.
The race series has been a platform for up-and-coming talent. Richard van Bebber (8) and Carl Stromberg (9) made it into the top 10 for the U19 juniors, while Julius Domnick (5), Kilian Steigner (6), and Felix Dierking (10) also achieved this feat after a challenging team weekend, which included training for the German Championships in the team time trial.
In the Elite Amateurs category, Sven Thurau and Kilian Steigner made it into the top 10, with Thurau narrowly missing the top 10 with an eleventh place finish. Tabeo Schmitz also came close, finishing eleventh in an unspecified race.
The race series has been competitive, with the leaders vying for the top spot. Sven Thurau remains the leader of the ROSE NRW Cycling Cup 2022, holding a 37-point lead over the second-placed Klein from Cologne. Minten, on the other hand, is currently in second place overall, just 20 points behind the leader, Jette Rasch from Saxony.
The final race of the series will take place on October 8th at the Berlin Velodrome, promising an exciting conclusion to the season. The top two finishers of the race series will be invited to join the Talent Team Endurance U17 of the German Cycling Federation the following year, offering a promising future for these young cyclists.
In a separate event, the unlicensed "Fette-Reifen-Rennen," young Florian finished third, securing a spot on the podium.
The cycling scene in Germany continues to thrive, with these young riders setting the pace for the future of the sport.
