The Silvretta Montafon region, nestled within the picturesque Austrian Alps, is home to four exhilarating via ferratas. Among these, the Hochjoch via ferrata stands out as the longest in Vorarlberg, boasting a cable length of 1750 meters.

Located at the namesake Hochjoch mountain, which towers at 2520 meters high, the Hochjoch via ferrata offers an unparalleled alpine adventure for daring and adventurous alpinists in Vorarlberg. The climb, rated by the Austrian Alpine Association as difficulty grade C ("difficult"), takes about three to four hours and covers roughly 450 meters in elevation.

The via ferrata entrance is signposted above the Schwarzsee in the Seetal and can be reached in about 30 minutes. To reach the starting point, mountaineers can use the Hochjoch and Sennigrat cable cars, making the journey to the summit more accessible.

The Hochjoch via ferrata winds through the mountains, providing breathtaking views of the Rätikon, Verwall, and Silvretta mountain ranges. The top of the via ferrata offers a 360-degree panoramic view that is truly awe-inspiring.

Just before the summit cross, there is a sixty-meter-long cable bridge to overcome or bypass securely. This bridge adds an extra element of excitement to the already thrilling climb.

The end of the ridge walk on the Hochalpila Grat allows mountaineers to choose between returning via the same route or making a detour over the cable bridge. The slightly shorter and easier tour with difficulty grade B ("moderately difficult") on the Hochalpila Grat takes about 3 hours.

The descent from the Hochjoch via ferrata takes about 60 minutes over the Hochalpila Grat and offers a high chance of encountering ibex. This makes the journey down just as exciting as the climb up.

However, it's important to note that the Hochjoch via ferrata is suitable only for experienced mountaineers. For those without sufficient experience, climbing the Hochjoch via ferrata alone can be done with a mountain guide, as part of a via ferrata course.

The Silvretta-Montafon ski resort, where the Hochjoch via ferrata is located, lies within the municipality of Schruns. This ski resort is one of the largest in Austria, offering a variety of winter sports activities.

While information about the mountain guide offering a course for the longest Via Ferrata in Vorarlberg was not readily available, it's clear that the Hochjoch via ferrata presents a challenging and rewarding alpine adventure for those seeking a thrilling mountaineering experience.
