The Rumpelpiste serves as a significant construction hub

Construction on Königsbrücker Straße, scheduled to commence in 2026, will span a duration of three years. During this period, the street will see the installation of new tracks, bike lanes, and barrier-free stops. Regrettably, this infrastructural development necessitates the felling of 122 trees.

The city of Dresden has announced a significant renovation project for Königsbrücker Straße, with construction set to begin in the near future. The city administration has published a video detailing the plans, which aim to improve the infrastructure and public spaces along this busy thoroughfare.

The renovation project, scheduled to take place between summer 2026 and summer 2029, will be jointly financed by the city of Dresden and the Saxony state government. Approximately 115,000 passengers use lines 7, 8, and 13 daily on Königsbrücker Straße and Bischofsweg, making it a vital artery for the city's public transportation system.

In the coming months, bidding for construction services will take place, with the construction period expected to last three years. The project will be divided into six phases, with two phases taking place on Bischofsweg.

To ensure a smooth transition and keep the public informed, further public events will be held before construction begins. These events will introduce residents to the local contacts who will be available during the construction period. One such event is scheduled for September 23, 2025, at 6 PM, and will be streamed live for those unable to attend in person.

During the first year of construction, trams will still run, but via Fritz-Reuter-Straße and Bischofsweg. In the second year, up to 20 articulated buses will be used as a replacement. Traffic in both directions on Königsbrücker Straße will be maintained during the construction, keeping one lane open for cars.

Road closures on Tannenstraße, Eschenstraße, and Schönbrückenstraße are expected to begin in September and October 2025. The most challenging phase of the construction will be between 2027 and 2028.

The renovation project aims to provide a smooth asphalt surface, safe bike lanes, barrier-free bus stops, and improved public spaces. The event on September 23 is exclusive for residents of Königsbrücker Straße, and registration is possible online until the event date.

If all goes according to plan, the renovation of Königsbrücker Straße will be completed by summer 2029, bringing much-needed updates to this important city thoroughfare.
