The announcement was made by none other than Jonathan Ross, presenter of Classic FM at the Movies, who expressed his joy at the event. The victory saw off stiff competition from music legends like John Williams and Hans Zimmer, with Shore's evocative and intricate musical world-building proving to be a significant part of the films' appeal.
Peter Jackson's film adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantastical tales have captured viewers' hearts and minds since 2001, and Shore's score has been a crucial element in this enduring success. His album "The Lord of the Rings" won in the Movie Music Hall of Fame of the Classic FM website in 2023 and 2024.
John Williams, a name synonymous with iconic film scores, had a strong showing in this year's chart. His seminal themes for Star Wars ranked third, while his soundtrack for Schindler's List climbed to the second position. In total, Williams had 12 entries in this year's chart, with six of them appearing in the Top 20 alone.
Vangelis' score for Chariots of Fire entered the Top 10 of the Movie Music Hall of Fame 2024, providing a delightful surprise for fans of the classic film.
More than 10,000 votes were cast in this year's poll, reflecting the deep love and appreciation for film music among the public. The full Top 100 can be viewed on the Classic FM website, with the Top 20 already published for eager fans to peruse.
