Police in Rhein-Erft County Crack Down on Drunk Driving

In a series of incidents over the past two days, police officers in the Rhein-Erft County have taken action against drunk drivers in the cities of Hürth, Bergheim, and Kerpen-Sindorf.

On Monday afternoon, a 71-year-old driver of a Nissan was stopped by police in Hürth-Efferen for suspected alcohol intoxication. A blood test was ordered and taken by a doctor at a police station, which revealed a reading of just under 1.00g/L. As a result, the driver's license was seized and they were prohibited from continuing their journey.

Later that evening, a 55-year-old driver of a Porsche was stopped by police on the Berliner Ring in Kerpen-Sindorf for driving erratically and on the wrong side of the road. The driver showed signs of intoxication, including balance issues, delayed pupil reaction, slurred speech, and a strong smell of alcohol. Despite being unable to perform a breathalyzer test, a blood test was ordered and taken by a doctor at a police station.

In Bergheim, a 35-year-old driver of a Fiat was stopped by police at around 1:00 AM on Tuesday for driving erratically and into oncoming traffic. The driver does not have a valid driver's license, and a breathalyzer test administered showed a reading of approximately 2.70g/L.

In all three cases, the police officers prohibited the drivers from continuing their journeys and filed reports. The traffic department has initiated investigations in all three cases, but the specific officers involved are not named in the available search results.

Another incident occurred in Kerpen, but no specific details about the driver or the incident were provided.
